Questions about Membership

Persons who wish to become a member of the Co-operative Society must complete and submit the application form available on the website and submit to the Board for approval. The registration fee must be paid and at least one share purchased.

The Constitution of the Society requires that business be transacted with registered members, therefore persons wishing to purchase land should apply to be a member.

Questions about Property

Once an owner is in possession of a registered deed of title to a property, there is no legal requirement to inform the Society if you wish to sell or transfer your property. However, since the Society is responsible for oversight of the overall development, we ask that we be notified of any changes in ownership because agencies such as TTPost and WASA occasionally request information from us and we would like information to be as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

After completing all payments, you should provide the Secretary with the name/s and address/es for the deed of transfer of title to be prepared. You need to also maintain contact with the lawyer and supply all required documents to facilitate legal transfer. Once the deed is registered and you have a copy, you should transfer ownership at the Siparia Revenue Office.

To do this, you contact the Secretary for the old assessment number of the property on which taxes were previously paid, and take this number and your deed of title to the Siparia Revenue Office where a new assessment number will be issued for the property. You can then begin to pay taxes on your property.

All housing developments must provide access to water, and once your property has access to a water line, you will be billed by WASA, irrespective of whether there is a building on the property or not. The bill rates are different however. You can obtain more information about this on WASA’s website: www.wasa.gov.tt

If your WASA bill is very high even though you have no building on the property, it may be that you are being billed as though there was one. It may also be that your bill has arrears covering many billing cycles. You would need to contact the Authority to have the matter investigated. Contact information is available at: www.wasa.gov.tt

Members are usually asked to complete a nominee form when they apply for membership. When we are notified of a member’s passing, we usually use the information on this form to determine how to disburse the member’s assets. If no nominee was indicated, relatives can present legal papers such as letters of administration of the estate of the deceased to guide the Society on how to proceed with disbursement of assets.
